Whereas all our original undies have been made from 95% cotton, and 5% elastane, our new undies will all be made from 95% organic cotton and 5% elastane. This means that all maroon undies are made from the organic stuff, and a lot of black ones will also be (it's clearly labelled on the undies if they are made from organic cotton). We are transitioning all undies in the future to organic cotton.
The quality of the organic cotton, and the fit and feel of the undies is exactly the same – we’ve just chosen to go organic because it’s better for the environment, and better for your skin.
Organic cotton produces around 46% less CO2 emissions compared to conventional cotton. It also uses far less water because the growers typically use rain water rather than irrigation. On top of all of that, organic cotton growers use beneficial insects to control unwanted pests instead of relying on harmful chemicals, thus encouraging biodiversity.
Organic farmers use beneficial insects over insecticide and utilise methods like crop rotation and composting for healthy soil instead of relying on synthetic fertilisers.
Thus, organic cotton production helps protect the environment, eco-systems, water supplies, and people – the farmers and the consumers.
As you can probably guess, the lower amounts of chemicals used in the production process mean that it's better for your skin. While our original undies underwent strong testing protocols from third parties to ensure it was made to the highest quality, the organic cotton is naturally a cleaner touch on your skin. The organic cotton undies are particularly beneficial for men with sensitive skin.
Our organic cotton undies have been certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) for both the cotton production and dyeing process. You can learn more about them at https://www.global-standard.org/the-standard/general-description.html.
